DENVER – (October 9, 2008) – When CD-4 Candidates Rep. Marilyn Musgrave and Betsy Markey declined to debate in the Colorado Decides debate series, Colorado Decides offered the option of separate interviews so voters would have the opportunity to hear from both candidates in the closely contested race. Both candidates agreed to the plan. The plan fell apart this week when Jason Thielman, manager of the Musgrave campaign, informed producer Dominic Dezzutti that Musgrave would not participate in the debate due to the makeup of the interview panel. Thielman claimed that a panelist had been part of “left wing campaigns in the past that are contrary to what Marilyn represents” and the feeling that it would be an unbiased panel, program producer Dominic Dezzutti said. The Colorado Decides partners – KBDI-Channel 12 (PBS), the Rocky Mountain News and CBS4 – did not acquiesce to the demand. “All three partners that make up the Colorado Decides series – KBDI, CBS 4 and the Rocky Mountain News, believe that we present unbiased and fair panelists who have asked balanced questions throughout the debate season,” Dezzutti said. “Since we would not change the composition of our panel, the Musgrave campaign chose not to participate.” Marilyn Musgrave’s Democratic opponent, Betsy Markey did choose to participate. The interview of Betsy Markey will air on Monday, Oct. 20 at 8 p.m. ### Marcia Simmons Photos Available for Download
