CPT12 Gives Back

Beyond education, there’s another very important engagement philosophy, rooted in collective impact, that has taken hold at CPT12 and it’s called, CPT12 Gives Back. Each month during 2012, CPT12 selected a local non-profit organization that aligned with our mission and values.

From education to animal welfare and environmental stewardship non-profits, CPT12 provided each organization with a 30-second on-air public service announcement and visibility using CPT12’s social media presence.

Additionally, each month, CPT12 staff offered to volunteer for that month’s featured non-profit, helping with everything from serving food to gardening to helping train service dogs. CPT12 also made the video available to each non-profit selected for their own use on their own web sites and other promotional applications.

Many non-profits cannot afford to produce their own video spots, and these videos helped them tell their message to our communities.

Working moms. Welcome here.

CPT12 is the #1 public media destination for working moms in Denver (Source: Media Audit 2012).

Take a look at this mini-profile of some of the people who are watching Channel 12:
  • They spend more than $150+ each week at the grocery store
  • They purchased fast food 5+ times in the past week
  • 32% say they will purchase furniture in the next 12 months
  • 34% are shopping for a smart phone
  • When asked “Where do you think the best programs for children and young people can be found on television?” nearly 60% said PBS.
  • Because of its high quality programs, parents watch PBS programming with children more than any other TV service.

Chosen Media Sponsor

We partnered with the Cancer League of Colorado as their 2012 Media Sponsor with broadcast and online promotions and helped them raise close to a million dollars for local cancer research.

American Graduate: Let's Make it Happen

#educatingkids #amgrad

CPT12 delivered tangible impact to at-risk young people who have struggled to stay in school through graduation. Together with Drop In Denver, we worked to reach kids with positive messages that encouraged them to reconnect with school for a better future. The campaign yielded these results:
  • 2221 Visits to the website
  • 110 texts into the campaign
  • Helped 110 students to return to school
  • Half of these students are under 21 and half are 21-25 year olds
Additionally, our ongoing work on the “American Graduate” dropout crisis initiative included hosting a youth voices digital storytelling workshop and town hall meeting with local non-profit partners Colorado Youth for a Change, Environmental Learning for Kids, and GOAL Academy. Check out the digital stories.

And take a look at CPT12's 2012 Local Content & Service Report to the Community that highlights more of our American Graduate work.

2012 Media sponsorships

We worked with local and national non-profits in Colorado to help magnify their important work through our media sponsorships of Colorado Gives Day, the Peace Jam Foundation Luncheon, and the Denver Film Society’s Annual Film Festival.

Financial Summary

#moneytalk #revsareup

Colorado Public Television continues to diversify its revenue streams while carefully controlling costs. Our independent content continues to show revenue growth and helps to differentiate CPT12 from other media outlets.

Community Aid

CPT12 worked with Colorado broadcast stations for a summer 2012 Fire Relief telethon. The four-hour live telethon raised $220,000 for the Colorado Chapters of the American Red Cross (CCARC) and the Colorado Professional Fire Fighters Foundation (CPFFF). 100% of the proceeds went to these recipient organizations.

Colorado Public Television (CPT12) partnered with public media organizations Rocky Mountain PBS, Aspen Public Radio, KUVO, KUNC and KRCC as well as eight commercial stations (9NEWS, 7NEWS, Azteca Colorado, CBS4, KDVR, KWGN, Noticias Univision and KDEN Telemundo Denver) to host a live phone bank to benefit the CCARC and CPFFF.

Broadcast Value

Our work in 2013 is dependent on your support. Each and every broadcast minute costs less than $7, a bargain in the television industry and an incredible value as you look at the wide and wonderful world we bring to our Colorado community.

365 days x 24 hours/day = 8760 hours per year x 3 streams = 26,280 hours of media broadcast each year.
