Building on its mantra of “World View, Community Voice,” KBDI proudly announces the launch of GLOBAL AGENDA, its new public affairs series premiering September 7 at 9:30pm.
Hosted by Reggie Rivers, GLOBAL AGENDA will explore current political, economical and social issues of prominence and concern – importing stories of life in communities abroad and expanding our vision here at home.
Well-versed in international politics, host Reggie Rivers will bring insight and a democratic approach to the task of exploring and assessing international issues. An impressive slate of guest journalists, educators and international experts will join Reggie each week to help parse these complex issues and discuss their local ramifications.
With its world focus, GLOBAL AGENDA will provide an important balance to KBDI’s current cache of locally-produced programs which offer timely, thorough discussions of issues affecting Coloradoans.
“I believe Global Agenda will pave the way for international issues to gain more prominence in our lives,” comments KBDI’s Alison Hill. “As producer, I am very excited and ready to take on any issue from any country. We’ll be discussing issues that do not get much attention in the mainstream media – such as the civil war in Uganda and the IRA disarmament – and offering an in-depth look at issues – not just a soundbite. GLOBAL AGENDA will also explore issues within the United States, such as the provisions of the USA Patriot Act, because of their obvious global impact.”
In its premiere episode, “Children at War: The Crisis in Northern Uganda,” GLOBAL AGENDA will feature Mark Amann of News Corps International who will join Reggie to talk about the civil war that has raged in Uganda for the past nineteen years. Ugandan citizens live in dread of “the Lord’s Resistance Army,” a terror group that has brutally abducted over 20,000 children to serve as soldiers, laborers, and in the case of girls, sexual slaves. Additionally, the United Nations estimates that more than 1.3 million people have been forced from their homes into displacement camps. Special footage from Uganda will complement the discussion of this humanitarian disaster.
Other upcoming episodes tackle the response to the recent London bombings; the USA Patriot Act; and a look at modern slavery and human trafficking. For information on these and other episodes, visit the GLOBAL AGENDA page.
