Yep – it’s my birthday this week….47.
Usually, birthdays don’t get to me – but that was when I was closer to my 30’s than my 50’s. Now that I’m at the age where I am “turning into my mother” (to quote my husband), I find myself wondering what horrible character flaw I need work on this year. (come on – don’t be shy… we all have them, perceived or real…. If we didn’t feel that we did, there would be no self-help sections in book stores…) After 5 minutes of deep introspection and soul-searching, my flaw of the year is… (drum rolllllllllllll): PROCRASTINATION!
From Merriam-Webster Dictionary :
transitive verb: to put off intentionally and habitually
intransitive verb: to put off intentionally the doing of something that should be done
Yep… that’s what I got! Now, don’t get the wrong idea about me – I am, in general, a very lovely person. I am, however, stubborn as the day is long. I will be the first person to chip in and help move a desk or spontaneously have a BBQ for the entire office, but give me a list of “should’s, outta’s, or someday’s”, and my eyes glaze over. I wasn’t raised this way (never put off until tomorrow what you can do today), I just evolved into it…. you see, the world has never ended just because my bathroom lights have cobwebs and really need to be washed (which is very fortunate for us all – given it’s 2012 and all…)
So, in celebration of being older, wiser, fatter, and greyer, I vow to work on my Procrastination Situation. I vow to make a list of 12 household tasks I have been putting off and complete them, one each month (hey – Procrastination Situations must be approached with caution – you don’t want to spook them!)
My list of 12 (or, as I shall call them, The Dirty Dozen) will need to be carefully honed over the course of this week… no, I’m not procrastinating getting the list done! If I am going to commit to this, I want the projects to truly be worthwhile and long lasting…. So, I shall give careful consideration and post The Dirty Dozen on next week’s blog.
Oh, and quick “12 pounds” update:
Exercise? Going really, really well! I am exercising to Leslie Sansone’s “Walk away the Pounds” DVD’s. I exercise 6 days out of 7 – to the 2 or 3 mile work out.
Diet? Doing OK…. My portions are still too large and I still eat too late at night.
Smoking? “vaping” is the word now… not 100% smoke –free, but after only one month of purchasing my water vapor “cigarettes”, I am thrilled with my progress AND how easy the transition has been.
Weight? I am still refusing to step on the scale… denial or strategy? You be the judge.
How are you doing on your healthy lifestyle changes?
