The Golden Triangle Museum District is seeking artists to participate in our 6th annual Denver Plein Air Arts Festival. Artists are invited to paint on location in the Golden Triangle and surrounding Denver Mountain Parks, on one or more days from August 10 to September 16.
Artists may submit one or more pieces, up to 24" x 30" on canvas/board/panel or watercolor paper, for official festival stamping between August 10 - September 16 at these three stamping locations: Byers-Evans House Museum, Native American Trading Company and Gallery 1261 and at the Center for the Arts Evergreen (Highway 74 Evergreen Parkway and Squaw Pass Rd, Evergreen, M-F 9am-4pm, Sat. noon-4 pm). .
Participation in the event includes a $20 registration fee ($10 for youth) and is open to all artists and all media. Artists may paint at any location within the boundaries of the Golden Triangle (between Speer, Colfax and Lincoln). Additional Denver locations include the 16th Street Mall, City Park, Confluence Park, and Washington Park. New locations include Red Rocks Park, Evergreen Lake (Dedisse Park), Lookout Mountain, and the Buffalo Overlook (Genesse Park). Furthermore, the following venues have given permission to artists to paint on their grounds: the Denver Public Library's Acoma Plaza, the Denver Art Museum's Martin Plaza, and the Byers-Evans House Museum. During the Powwow on September 8th we ask that artists steer clear of Acoma Plaza as there will be a lot of activity.
Artists have the option of entering one or more pieces (no limit) completed during the event into the juried competition ($10 per entry, $5 for youth). The competition will be judged by Jill Rosentrater, director of Art in Public Places with the Colorado Council of Arts; Rose Fredrick, writer and curator of Coors Western Art Exhibit; and Kimberly Moore, regional sales manager for Southwest Art. Cash and prizes will be awarded. Accepted works will be exhibited at The Denver Central Library's Vida Ellison Gallery (on the 7th floor) from Nov 13 - Dec 31, 2012. Youth activities and award ceremony will be held in the Gate's Reading Room.
In addition to our two yearly categories for professional and emerging artists, Denver Plein Air is excited to announce a new category for 2012: this year, a youth category will also be featured in the juried competition. Participants wishing to enter the juried contest should email images between September 1 - 22 to info@gtmd.org. Applicants will be charged a $20 registration fee and a $10 entry fee per piece submitted for the optional juried competition, payable via check or credit card. Registration for youth will be $10 and $5 entry fee per submitted piece.
