POWERED BY STORY SCREENING EVENT

the screening event

Join us for a screening of POWERED BY STORY: A DOCUMENTARY ON COURAGE.

This Colorado Public Television documentary is an American Graduate film about the importance of telling your story – no matter the daring it takes.

In this powerful film, our cameras follow a group of vulnerable students as they attend a creative workshop and take part in everything from slam poetry and music engineering, to photojournalism and digital storytelling. What we see is their potential uncovered and freed, simply through the process of being heard by people who listen deeply.

the background

Colorado’s dropout rate is a big problem. Not only for the 11,000 plus students who dropout each year in our state, but for everyone left to cover the costs of unemployment, higher incarceration rates, and unrealized earnings and potential.

But there is a community of dedicated people, from teachers and trainers to nonprofits, businesses, artists and individuals, who know that every single child matters.

As part of the American Graduate public media initiative, Colorado Public Television is one of those organizations trying to be a part of the solution. Through creative workshops, Powered By Story, CPT12 has documented how vulnerable young people, when given the chance to tell their story, can begin to see their potential, all while learning valuable skills toward college or a career.

See CPT12’s American Graduate stories or nominate an American Graduate Champion. An American Graduate Champion is someone who goes the distance for kids. It can be a teacher, a neighbor, a relative, or anyone who goes above and beyond for a young person, helping them to be successful in their lives.
