What happened last night 4th of June?.You had a lot of technical difficulties and it was impossible to watch.
CPT12 Response:
Thank you for your email.
I have talked to our Tech Department. We did lose 12.3 from 2:40 AM until 3:33AM  on June 4th due to a service related outage at Comcast. We receive 12.3 programming through the internet which is provided to us by Comcast. Other than that brief time period, 12.3 was running smoothly.
12.1 and 12.2 were uninterrupted.
The technical problems you experienced may be unique to your location. Weather and power fluctuations can affect the quality of a location’s reception.
If you continue to have problems, please give us a call at the station Monday through Friday 9AM to 5PM. We can fill out a short questionnaire and arrange to have one of our Technicians call you  back to troubleshoot your issue.
Thank  you for watching and supporting Colorado Public Television.
Sincerely,
Joan

We also were irritated by the cut-off of the Maigret telecast mentioned in the recent messages. Are you going on record in placing the blame on Comcast? If so, I may cancel my Comcast cable server. Please respond to this message, as I hope you will respond to all your messages. In this era of sophisticated TV service, this should not happen. Question -- Are you placing the responsibility on Comcast? Patrick Murphy ecpl@sbhsi.com
CPT12 Response:
After some investigation we were able to determine that the problem was with the provider, MHZ Worldview, and not either us or Comcast. The service originates in Virginia and we re-transmit it to our viewers. We weren’t able to get many details, but we do know it resulted from an equipment failure. We have carried their  channel for many years now, and this is only the second such incident we have on record.  There have been a few other short outages on 12.3, but these were caused downstream from their facility. They are very responsive, and in addition to the monitoring they do at their site, they have additional monitoring through a third party . We monitor them as well.

It is unfortunate anytime there is a signal loss, but even more so during a mystery program. We believe MHZ is an outstanding, one-of-a-kind service with their mix of international news and dramas and we are pleased to have an agreement with them for re-transmission to our Colorado viewers.

Program: Maigret
August 15, 2012 Dear Channel 12, My wife and I are contributing members of your station. We enjoy various programs but especially those on 12-3 and most especially those from MHz. The foreign language mysteries are favorites. A couple of months ago, 12-3 was off the air for several days. When we called to enquire, we were told that it had something to do with a Comcast hardware problem. We assumed that it was taken care of. This week we recorded the Maigret series on Tuesday, August 7, as we always do at 10:00 p.m. Much to our chagrin, when we tried to watch it the following day, 12-3 had experienced “technical difficulties” the night before. We completely missed that Maigret program since it is not shown again. Was it Comcast hardware again? Does that mean that if we subscribed to Comcast, we would not experience these problems? We are sorely disappointed with Channel 12. Our contribution each year is relatively small but a stretch for us on a fixed income. We feel that we should contribute to the station that we enjoy regularly. But if Channel 12 cannot maintain its hardware, we must reconsider. We will call Roku to see if they can supply viewing with no hassles. Please fix your hardware. Sincerely, Steven & Kathy Lawrence
CPT12 Response:
Thanks you for your email and your support. We have had some challenges with the 12.3 signal since they stopped delivering it via satellite and began to provide us an internet-only delivery. The problem has been with the Comcast business-class internet service the we use to bring the signal into our building for rebroadcast. They have had several outages on this circuit over the past year, most of them of short duration, but a couple of times, as on August 7th, the service was down for several hours. Since we take this as a live stream over the internet, when the Comcast internet is down in our area, we lose the MHZ service. We have, of course, been working with Comcast to eliminate these outages, and they have hopefully fixed the specific problem that was impacting our geographical area.

There are other internet services providers that we could contract with, though for a true enterprise (as opposed to business- class) service, our costs would at least triple. We are hoping to avoid this increase in cost, and will continue to monitor the Comcast service to determine whether it’s reliability has improved. Otherwise, we will need to look for another, more expensive service, but one that will  likely be more reliable.

We are sorry that you missed one of the Maigret programs. This has proven to be one of our most popular series, and we want to be able to provided you with every one of them.
