For the last two years, award-winning chef, author and home design expert Christy Rost has worked to transform a historic and neglected Colorado mountain estate — Swan's Nest — into her new home. With the project nearing completion, Christy wanted to celebrate by hosting a festive Thanksgiving dinner for family and friends. Christy's preparation for this gathering serves as the underlying storyline for her holiday special, A HOME FOR CHRISTY ROST - THANKSGIVING. Over the course of one hour, Christy... [see more] deftly weaves her cooking tips, seasonal recipes such as homemade cornbread dressing, table-setting ideas and more into an exploration of the history and renovation of her new home.Between cooking and entertaining segments, Christy recounts Swan's Nest's fascinating history, some of which even parallels the work at hand. Gold baron Ben Stanley Revett built the manor in 1898 and threw decadent parties there, often singing to entertain his guests. After Revett abandoned the property, it took on a variety of uses, including a camp, hunting lodge and snowmobile operation, before falling into disrepair. This history gives way to the modern re-imagining of the home and the challenges in restoring the 19th-century manor, particularly in updating the heat and insulation. The program culminates with the unveiling of the finished home and Christy sharing a Thanksgiving celebration with her family and friends. Since 1992, Christy Rost has served as the food editor for The Park Cities Newsin Dallas. She has hosted popular "table-top and entertaining at home" cooking seminars for Macy's; held cooking, entertaining and design classes for Sur La Table; hosted her own cable television cooking and lifestyle show, Just Like Homeand frequently appeared on television cooking shows, including the nationally syndicated At Home Live.Among her other accomplishments, Christy belongs to the International Association of Culinary Professionals and has authored two critically acclaimed cookbooks, The Family Tableand Where's My Spatula?.
