Denver Union Station celebration
Posted: September 25, 2014 by Edie Bryan
Program: Colorado Inside Out
This Saturday, September 27, the Colorado Rail Passenger Association is celebrating 25 years of advocating for more passenger train service. Come and celebrate with us 9:00 a.m. to 12:30 at the newly refurbished Denver Union Station. Come lift a glass with us, also 2 panels on where we've been and where we're going in the future. Phil Washington, ceo of RTD is featured speaker. This could be included in the "say something nice" segment, maybe by Patty Calhoun, or someone else. 25 years ago Denver Union Station was in danger of being abandoned with AMTRAK trains to go to a metal building in Brighton. The public rose up but there was no group to take up this cause. Ever since, the Colorado Rail Passenger Association, called "Colorail" has advocated Denver Union Station.

Recently Patty gave praise to "Dave Liniger" for donating "The Wilderness Experience" to C.U. I believe that should have been "Gail and Dave Liniger" as the donators, and it is "The Wildlife Experience". Thank you for the opportunity to contribute to an excellent show. Marie LaBudde

Comment on 3rd Party and Independent Candidates for Go.

. I would lfirst and most importantly like to say thank you to CPT12 for showing Colorado Decides with the candidates for governor from the Green Party and the Libertarian Party and the independent candidate. It is as the panel said about Senator Udall, somewhat disapointing that the candidates from the major parties do not think they should take the time and effort to speak at the same time as the other candidates, but is nice that public TV is helping to provide full information as to who and what will be put on the Colorado ballets. It seems like democracy and freedom should work better when the public is informed and know what is and is not on the ballot. I was a little disappointed that Eric Sonderman did not bring up specific issues with the candidates on the program today. If he were to say he liked one candidate over the other it seems like he should say why; so that that his valuable media time is not just a quick advertisement, but a real concern for an answer to a question. There were excellent issues in the debate. The issue of economics and the Green candidate, Harry Hempy made it clear he thinks it would help communities to have a higher minimum wage especially in cities like Boulder where the cost of living is higher. It eould help those would get a higher wage and it would help the community because they would no longer be at such a low income level they would have to go on Medcaid for healthcare and their tax base would be higher for the schools and other public services. Of course we know the Libertarians do not want anything regulated, so they would be happy to leave the pay up to businesses, which is what took place in the early 1900's befor the regulations of child labor laws. However the Libertarian' view was clear, but the independent you mentioned appreciating, Mike Dunafon, was hard to understand and stated a means to improve the economy was something about paying people who aren't working. I did not know if he was talking about the extension on unemployment, if he did not believe in unemployment or in disability checks. I have not seen any statistics that say there is a large problem of supporting non-disabled people in Colorado. So I do hope you will explain why you seemed to like Mike Donafon better than the other two candidates where spoke with more prisisly to the issues. I do know at one place Harry Hempy said he did not like how he was answering the question oabout working with Republican and Democrat legislators, but he did make it clear he thought he could do what would be needed.
