Not receiving all 3 Channels

Program: Global 3000 (DW) on MHz
For over a week now I have been unable to watch all three channels of Denver PBS. I especially miss seeing MHz International Mysteries. The channels come in and out, and most of the time there is no signal. Do you have a problem transmitting? I live in Colorado Springs and have always been able to get Denver PBS which I love very much. However, suddenly there is a lot of interference and I lose picture and sound. Can you help me? Thank you!
CPT12 Response:
Thanks for your email. I am sorry you are having trouble receiving our signal.
The problem you described is usually related to your antenna. There are some things you can check that often resolve the issue.
  • Make sure all your connections are tight and that the connectors themselves aren’t lose or that the cable isn’t damaged. At the antenna, if it’s been up for a while, it’s a good idea to remove the connector and then reconnect it. This will remove the oxidation that may have built up over time.
  • If you have multiple TV’s connected to a single antenna using a splitter, try  a direct feed to just one TV (removing the splitter). This will tell you if the splitter is causing some loss. In that case, install an inexpensive TV amplifier (around $20.00 at Radio Shack) between your antenna and the splitter. There’s no guarantee this will give you the signal gain you need, but it is worth a try.
  • If you have a thin RG59 cable, replace it with the heavier digital standard RG6
If you are getting us sometimes and not others, this is normally related to changes in the weather and atmosphere. Your antenna system is good enough to pick us up when the weather is optimal, but not good enough when it’s not. Improvements you make to the antenna system should get you more consistent reception. It could be also that your antenna itself may need to be upgraded, though I would look at that as a last resort. If you do decide to upgrade the antenna, here is a website for a manufacturer we have had consistently good results with. www.digitenna.com
Please feel free to call the station at 303-296-1212 Monday through Friday 9AM to 5PM and ask for either Jonathan or Mark. Either of them can help you with additional troubleshooting. It is important to us that you are able to consistently receive all three of our digital channels.
All the Best,
