Severance Tax Amendments 52 and 58 will be Debated Monday in 'Colorado Decides' Series on KBDI-Channel 12
DENVER – (September 12, 2008) – Proponents and opponents of Amendments 52 and 58 will debate in the Colorado Decides series Monday, Sept. 15 at 8 p.m. on KBDI-Channel 12.
The Amendment 58 proposal for raising the state’s mineral severance tax for revenue for college sponsorships, wildlife habit, renewable energy and other projects will be debated at 8 p.m. by proponent House Majority Leader State Representative Alice Madden and opponent Mike Beatty, who served as chief of staff for Gov. Roy Romer.
Amendment 52, a proposed a constitutional amendment to use severance tax revenues exclusively for I-70 construction., will be debated at 8:30 by State Representative Cory Gardner of Yuma, who supports the amendment. An opponent for the amendment has not yet been confirmed.
The debates, hosted by KBDI’s Eric Sondermann with an interview panelist from the Rocky Mountain News, will provide views of the two important ballot issues.
Both sides of at least eight ballot issues are presented in editions of Colorado Decides on four Mondays in September at 8 p.m. Weekly topics will be announced on the www.kbdi.org website. Debates of Congressional candidates in districts 2, 4, 6 and 7 will be presented in October.
