DENVER – (September 19, 2008) - Televised debates of opponents and proponents of Amendments 56 and 57 will air Monday, Sept. 22 in the Colorado Decides debate series at 8 p.m. on KBDI-Channel 12 and an “empty chair” debate of Amendment 47 will air at 8:30 p.m..
Amendments 56 and 57 will be debated by proponent Manolo Gonzalez and opponent Doug Friednash.
The Amendment 47 debate included proponent Kelley Harp. The measure’s opposing coalition, which had previously accepted an invitation to the September 19 taping of the debate contacted KBDI the afternoon prior to the scheduled debate taping and declined to participate unless the debate included Amendments 47, 49 and 54 all in one 30-minute debate.
“The Colorado Decides series is producing over 18 debates this season and prides itself on providing as much time as possible on each ballot issue,” KBDI producer Dominic Dezzutti, said. “Combining these three issues into one 30-minute debate was not an option. So instead of a representative from Protect Colorado’s Future, the debate had an empty chair.”
Amendment 49 also was taped on September 19 with a broadcast date of September 29 with proponent Jon Caldara. The opponent declined participation in the debate – for the same reasons cited for non-participation in the Amendment 47 debate.
Colorado Decides is a partnership of KBDI-TV, CBS4 and the Rocky Mountain News. After the debate airs on Channel 12, it will be available on all three partners’ websites: www.kbdi.org, www.rockymountainnews.com, and www.cbs4denver.com.
