DENVER – (January 13, 2009) – PBS and The NewsHour will provide live coverage and analysis of the inauguration of Barack Obama as the 44th President of the United States of America Tuesday, Jan. 20 from 9 a.m. to noon on KBDI-Channel 12 (PBS).
Hosted by Jim Lehrer, The NewsHour Coverage of Inauguration 2009 will include analysis by New York Times columnist David Brooks and syndicated columnist Mark Shields.
Historical context will be provided by Ellen Fitzpatrick, Peniel Joseph and Richard Brookhiser. Fitzpatrick is a presidential historian and professor at the University of New Hampshire, Joseph is professor of history and African-American studies at Brandeis University and Brookhiser is senior editor at National Review and author of a series of biographies on America’s founders.
PBS plans to cover Barack Obama’s arrival at the White House, excerpts of the church service, the pomp and circumstance of the swearing in as the 44th president of the United States, the new President’s speech to the nation from the Capitol steps and musical performances from Aretha Franklin, cellist Yo-Yo Ma and violinist Itzhak Perlman.
