DENVER — May 5, 2009 — The Rochester Jazz Festival – featuring singer Catherine Russell, The Bad Plus band and trombonist Slide Hampton – will air Friday, May 15 at 9 and 10 p.m. on KBDI-Channel 12 (PBS). KBDI’s airing of the Rochester festival is the station’s salute to the city’s free Five Points Jazz Festival on Saturday, May 16, starting at 11 a.m. at numerous venues along Welton St. in Denver’s historic Five Points. The festival is presented by the Denver Office of Cultural Affairs and the Five Points Community. In the Rochester Jazz Festival programs, Catherine Russell and The Bad Plus Band are featured at 9 p.m. One of today’s most distinct jazz vocalists, Russell is the daughter of famed music director Luis Russell. The Bad Plus band includes pianist Reid Anderson, bassist Ethan Iverson and drummer David King.
