DENVER – June 23, 2009 – President Obama has nominated Judge Sonia Sotomayor for appointment to the Supreme Court, the first Hispanic nominee and only the third female nominee to the high court. To mark this potential Supreme Court milestone and other recent Supreme Court news coverage, “A Class Apart,” the AMERICAN EXPERIENCE episode that told the story of an encounter between the Latino community and the high court, will air Saturday, June 27 at 8:30 p.m. on KBDI-Channel 12. “A Class Apart” covers the 1950s case of Hernandex v Texas, which took on a Jim Crow-style discrimination against Mexican-Americans. Among the film’s main characters are the Latino attorneys who would lay the groundwork for future generations, including Sotomayor’s.
