Friday Nights = Public Affairs on KBDI-Channel 12

DENVER – August 19, 2009 – On Friday nights this fall, KBDI-12 will boast an impressive block of public affairs programming from 5 to 10 p.m. starting and ending with Tavis Smiley and Charlie Rose, respectively.

The schedule, starting September 11, will include:

• Tavis Smiley features a unique mix of news and pop culture to combine for one thought-provoking and entertaining program. A hybrid of news, issues and entertainment, it features interviews with artists, activists, newsmakers, politicians and everyday people. This show will air at 5 p.m.

• Democracy Now!, a national, daily, independent, award-winning news program hosted by journalists Amy Goodman and Juan Gonzalez. Democracy Now!, will air at 5:30 p.m.

• At 6:30, Worldfocus approaches news in a way that combines the editorial integrity of public television and traditional media with the diverse perspectives of journalists, bloggers and local citizens. Extending its reach beyond that of the traditional newsroom, Worldfocus compiles a broad range of voices from around the world — from the European economics professor to the El Salvadoran shopkeeper blogging about his daily business.

• The Aaron Harber Show features free-form discussion with guests from Colorado’s political, social, and cultural leadership. Each show provides expert insight into the major issues of the day. The Aaron Harber Show will air at 7 p.m.

• At 8 p.m., Colorado Inside Out, KBDI’s flagship public affairs program, presents a thought-provoking and in-depth weekly analysis of Colorado current affairs by a panel of highly-informed journalists, activists, and professional pundits.

• Independent Thinking, a weekly current affairs series featuring lively – and sometimes heated – debates among elected officials, journalists, activists, concerned citizens, is hosted by the hard-pressing conservative host, Jon Caldara, at 8:30 p.m.

• Tough Love with Mike Zinna at 9 p.m. is Radio Host Mike Zinna's political television show. Tough Love spotlights local political leaders and their reactions to national news events. Politicos representing all major parties are poked and prodded as they lend their reaction to what's going on in Washington DC and the world.

• Latin View is a ground-breaking series that looks at issues affecting Latinos in America. Featuring the nation’s best and brightest Hispanic leaders, the series offers a weekly forum for debate and discussion. Latin View will air at 9:30 p.m.

• Charlie Rose is a program where Emmy award-winning journalist Charlie Rose engages the world's most fascinating individuals in one-on-one conversations and roundtable discussions five nights a week. From studios in New York City and around the world, Rose talks to people in every field who have "a great story to tell." Charlie Rose will air at 10 p.m. weekdays and repeat at 1 p.m. the next day Tuesdays through Fridays.
