New Children’s Programming Fall 2009

DENVER – (August 19, 2009) – KBDI-12 (PBS) will air five new children’s shows, beginning Monday, September 7.

Sid the Science Kid, Dinosaur Train, Martha Speaks and Mama Mirabelle’s Home Movies will premier on KBDI-12 and Angelina Ballerina will return to the channel after a two-year hiatus.

“KBDI-12 is Colorado’s home of great PBS Saturday morning programs for children,” said Brad Haug, KBDI-12’s director of programming. “The lineup includes some of the strongest shows nationally in children’s primetime viewing hours,” Haug said.

Sid the Science Kid is a new educational animated television series produced by the Jim Henson Company, using comedy to promote exploration, discovery and science readiness among preschoolers. This new series will air weekdays at 8 a.m.

Dinosaur Train, a new animated series, also from the Jim Henson Company, explores natural history, natural science, and paleontology through the eyes of Buddy, a preschool-aged Tyrannosaurus Rex. Dinosaur Train will air weekdays at 9:30 a.m.

Martha Speaks will include 15 exciting episodes that take Martha, a dog who found her voice in a bowl of alphabet soup, on all sorts of vocabulary-infused adventures. Martha Speaks has been designed and proven to enrich the vocabulary of 4- to 7-year-olds and will air on KBDI-12 Saturdays at 8 a.m.

Another animated series, Mama Mirabelle’s Home Movies, will look at the natural world from a preschooler’s point of view. It introduces preschoolers to a fascinating world filled with loveable characters and stunning wildlife movies from National Geographic. This new series will air Sundays at 8:30 a.m.

Angelina Ballerina tells the story of a little mouse who dreams of becoming a ballerina. This series is based off the wildly successful books by author Katharine Holabird and illustrator Helen Craig. This fun new series will air Sundays at 10 a.m.

In October, six programs will air new episodes:  Arthur, Curious George, Cyberchase, Between the Lions, FETCH! With Ruff Ruffman and WordGirl.

Keeping up with the online world, The Electric Company will allow kid viewers to vote on their favorite member of the Electric Company team and determine shows that will air the week of October 12.  Voting will take place until about two weeks before the broadcasts.

A full schedule of air times for all of the programs can be found at www.KBDI.org.
