Denver (May 11, 2011) – A partnership between Colorado Public Television (CPT12), Colorado Public News, the Tri-County Health Department and The Children’s Hospital has resulted in a free collection of 28 short English and Spanish-language videos calling on kids, parents, teachers and other caregivers to get up and move, and to eat healthfully. Most of the videos are targeted at children aged 3 to 8; others are aimed at parents, teachers, babysitters, daycare – anyone who takes care of children. The videos are available to media and organizations that reach out to and provide resources to children and families. The videos are free for use on television, websites, electronic communications and social media.
Twenty of the videos are aimed directly at children age 3 to 8. They show children enjoying eating healthy food in family settings and playing physically active games that are easy to replicate at home. Children watching the videos have become excited and chosen to copy these healthy activities because the play is fun, the food looks yummy and they like to jump in and help in the kitchen.
Another eight videos are aimed at the adults in children’s lives, and explain how to help kids sleep, how to make a quick, healthy stirfry and find easy, active games for children.
The sponsors are conducting an outreach campaign to promote the video series throughout Colorado with media, key organizations, blogs, government agencies and corporations to use them to promote indoor and outdoor play, healthy eating and active lifestyles. Among the organizations that have responded are: Green and Clean Mom blog, Clinica Tepeyac, metro Denver area Whole Foods Markets, Colorado Academy of Family Physicians, the Department of Health and Human Services, AARP and The Colorado Trust.
