Colorado Public Television, Colorado Public News, Tri-County Health Department and The Children’s Hospital Team Up to Produce and Distribute “Let’s Pl

Denver (May 11, 2011) – A partnership between Colorado Public Television (CPT12), Colorado Public News, the Tri-County Health Department and The Children’s Hospital has resulted in a free collection of 28 short English and Spanish-language videos calling on kids, parents, teachers and other caregivers to get up and move, and to eat healthfully. Most of the videos are targeted at children aged 3 to 8; others are aimed at parents, teachers, babysitters, daycare – anyone who takes care of children.   The videos are available to media and organizations that reach out to and provide resources to children and families. The videos are free for use on television, websites, electronic communications and social media.

Twenty of the videos are aimed directly at children age 3 to 8. They show children enjoying eating healthy food in family settings and playing physically active games that are easy to replicate at home. Children watching the videos have become excited and chosen to copy these healthy activities because the play is fun, the food looks yummy and they like to jump in and help in the kitchen.

Another eight videos are aimed at the adults in children’s lives, and explain how to help kids sleep, how to make a quick, healthy stirfry and find easy, active games for children.

The sponsors are conducting an outreach campaign to promote the video series throughout Colorado with media, key organizations, blogs, government agencies and corporations to use them to promote indoor and outdoor play, healthy eating and active lifestyles. Among the organizations that have responded are: Green and Clean Mom blog, Clinica Tepeyac, metro Denver area Whole Foods Markets, Colorado Academy of Family Physicians, the Department of Health and Human Services, AARP and The Colorado Trust.

The videos are available for download at: http://bit.ly/fA169D.

Media are invited to use the videos in relevant stories if credit is given. Contact 303. 991. 7525 for details.  Broadcast-quality versions have been distributed to Colorado television operations.

About Colorado Public News
Sponsored by Colorado Public Television, CPT12, Colorado Public News is a donor-supported news service  producing in-depth and unbiased, PBS-quality news reporting on issues essential for informed citizens to run a healthy democracy and thriving economy. CPN is uncovering information and producing significant stories not being reported by others in Colorado, filling the void left by the recent cutbacks in journalism statewide. CPN stories are distributed on a growing network of television, radio, internet, print and mobile partners around Colorado and have been featured on the LATimes.com, the PBS NewsHour website and the Huffington Post.

Colorado Public News is a place for a new kind of collaboration between donors who care about Coloradans and an informed public. As the economics of news reporting changes, more news will be uncovered by organizations that are non-profit and financed by donations, large and small. CPN is a place where donors can come together and back high-quality news that will reach a wide audience across the state.

With additional funding, CPN will expand its coverage into new issues and topics. CPN invites major donors and funding organizations to make contact through newsroom@cpt12.org to discuss support for specific areas. Donors and volunteers may also go to www.coloradopublicnews.org and click on Donate to make a credit-card donation or sign up to help.
