Colorado Public Television Presents “Edgar Payne: The Scenic Journey”
Artist Edgar Payne to be featured in November 5 documentary presentation.
Denver, CO – Colorado Public Television brings another original feature arts documentary to air with “Edgar Payne: The Scenic Journey,” on Monday, November 5 at 7 p.m. Produced in partnership with documentarian Joshua Hassel, CPT12 is delighted to shine our lens on an additional artist who has helped shape American landscape art.
Although Edgar Payne was chiefly self taught, he became one of America’s most significant painters in the early 20th century.  A California impressionist, Payne created masterpieces using his innate talents and his love for the natural environment.  Best known for his depictions of the Sierra Nevada Mountains, Payne also painted the California coast, the American Southwest, as well as the Alps.  Edgar Payne has served as an inspiration for generations of landscape painters.
"Edgar Payne's early 20th Century adventures - his use of the automobile and train took Payne places early landscape artists had not been able to reach,” explained Joshua Hassel, director and producer for the documentary.  “With the current revived interest in plein air painting, and the renewed fascination with his work by museums and collectors Payne is a great subject for an artist profile, whose story interweaves American innovation with our cultural heritage."
“Colorado Public Television is interested in bringing unique and interesting perspectives on art to our community,” said Willard D. “Wick” Rowland Jr., President and CEO of CPT12. “With Edgar Payne: The Scenic Journey, our partnership with Joshua Hassel and his passion for art and artists, provides yet another opportunity to focus on the fascinating world of painters and their inspiration.”
