Colorado Public Television to Host First Annual Independent Media Award Luncheon

Honoring Daniel Weinshenker of the Center for Digital Storytelling
Thursday, November 21, 2013 at the Grant-Humphreys Mansion

October 22, 2013 – Denver CO – Colorado Public Television (CPT12) will present the First Annual CPT12 Independent Media Award at a luncheon at the Grant-Humphreys Mansion  in Denver on Thursday, November 21, from 11 AM to 1 PM.

The public is invited to join us on Thursday, November 21 at the Grant-Humphreys Mansion for the CPT12 First Annual Independent Media Award Luncheon.   The luncheon will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the charming Downton Abbey-esque Grant-Humphreys Mansion (770 Pennsylvania Street, Denver). Featured speakers will include Jon Caldara of The Devils Advocate and Tamara Banks, co-host of Studio 12.

The 2013 award will be presented to Daniel Weinshenker, Director of the Rocky Mountain Region Office of the Center for Digital Storytelling.  The Center for Digital Storytelling is an international non-profit training, project development, and research organization dedicated to assisting people in the use of digital media to tell meaningful stories about their lives.

“The face of public media is changing and independent voices like Colorado Public Television are becoming harder to find.  As a PBS affiliate station, CPT12 is a national beacon and an industry leader in public media,” said Kim Johnson. “To honor those in our community who cultivate independent expression, the station has created the CPT12 Independent Media Award and we’re delighted to name Daniel Weinshenker as the first honoree.”

Weinshenker’s video work includes projects with the Coalition Against Domestic Violence, Platte Forum, working with cancer patients at the University of Colorado Hospital, Women’s Bean Project, and History Colorado.  In 2012, Daniel helped disenfranchised youth create short video biographies as part of the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB) and the CPT12 dropout prevention initiative , American Graduate. The resulting videos are dynamic, honest and heartfelt.  Weinshenker’s work aligns with CPT12’s objective of making meaningful connections with people in our community.

Individual tickets are $110 each.
