James Taylor, Steve Miller Band, Doo Wop, Celtic Thunder and Fiesta Top Music Lineup June 1-6

DENVER, May 23, 2008 – A James Taylor tribute, the “Steve Miller Band: Live from Chicago,” “Doo Wop’s Greatest Hits,” “Celtic Thunder” and “Fiesta Mexicana” provide music variety June 1-6 on Colorado Public Television, KBDI, Channel 12.
“A Tribute to James Taylor,” recorded at the L.A. Convention Center, airs Friday, June 5, at 7 p.m. and Friday, June 6, at 2 a.m. and 8:30 p.m. The salute to the 58-year-old singer and songwriter features India Arie, Jackson Browne, Cheryl Crowe, Jimmy Buffet and many others.
Musical highlights include Bruce Springsteen’s performance of “Millworker,” the Dixie Chicks’ “Shower the People,” Alison Kraus and Jerry Douglas for “Carolina in My Mind, and Taylor, himself, joining Carole King for the final chorus of “You’ve Got a Friend.” Taylor closes the telecast with his classic “Fire and Rain.”
“Steve Miller Band: Live in Chicago” was filmed over two nights in 2007 at Chicago’s Ravinia Theatre. Songs like “Fly Like an Eagle,” “Rockin’ Me” and “Take the Money and Run” are included in the song list. The concert airs Thursday, June 5, at 9 p.m.
“Doo Wop’s Greatest Hits,” a new best-of compilation of 21 bands, is a sequel to “Doo Wop’s Best” on PBS. The Chantells, The Limelites, The Moonglows, The Duprees, and Herb Reed’s Platters are among the performers. The program will air Sunday, June 1, at 6 and 9 p.m.; Monday, June 2, at 2 a.m.; Tuesday, June 3, at 10 p.m., and Wednesday, June 4, at 7 p.m.
“Celtic Thunder,” filmed at the Helix in Dublin last August, will air on Monday, June 2, at 7 p.m. and 9 p.m. and Tuesday, June 3 at 12:30 a.m. The songs celebrate a common Celtic heritage with soloists ranging in age from 14 to 40. The performance is the teamwork of Sharon Browne, who created and produced “Celtic Woman,” and Grammy-nominated Irish songwriter and composer Phil Coulter, who has written hits for Elvis Presley (“My Boy”) and performed with Van Morrison, Tom Jones and many others.
Music and dance from regions of Mexico will be featured in “Fiesta Mexicana,” a gala set in some of Mexico’s most spectacular locations and hosted by Hispanic singing icon Vikki Carr. Singing legends Eugenia Leon and Alberto Angel “El Cuervo” are among the numerous stars and musical groups. The program airs Tuesday, June 3, at 7 p.m. and June 4.at 12:30 a.m.
